The Honda CB500X is part of a new range of 500cc motorcycles that Honda unveiled at the 2012 EICMA. It is an adventure motorcycle and is underpinned by the same platform and shares the engine with the CB500F and the CBR500R.
The CB500X certainly looks the part of a small adventure motorcycle thanks to the standard design elements like high ground clearance, windscreen and half fairing in front. It shares much of its design like wheels, seats, switch gear as well as paint schemes with its other 500cc engined siblings.
The CB500X is powered by the same 500cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled DOHC engine that also powers the 2013 Honda CBR500R and the2013 Honda CB500F.The motorcycle also features Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI). The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and produces 47bhp and 43Nm. The front suspension has a 41mm fork with 4.8 inches of travel whereas the rear suspension is a Pro-Link single shock with nine-position spring preload adjustability.
Honda has given the CB500X, twin-piston callipers clamping on a single 320mm wave disc at the front and a single calliper 240mm disc at the rear. As for tyres, Honda has given it a 17-inch rim with 120/70 in front and 160/60 at the rear.
We expect that Honda will bring the entire 500cc range to India in a single go and this means the CB500X will be a part of this onslaught. It is likely to be an early 2015 launch with prices in the range of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh.
